Do you know about Sedge Island, where it is, the history or how to visit there?

If you'd like to know, The Point Pleasant Climate Action Committee in conjunction with the Point Pleasant Environmental Commission will be presenting Dr. Jim Merritt of the Sedge Island Natural Resources Center on August 23 at the Point Pleasant Borough Hall, 2233 Bridge Avenue at 7:30.

Dr. Merritt will discuss Sedge Island Marine Conservation Zone as it relates to Barnegat Bay. This will be an interactive session with plenty of dialogue and questions from the audience. Topics may include: salt marsh flora and fauna, endangered, threatened and invasive species, human impact, shellfish restoration AND anything of interest to the audience including how to visit the island.

Dr. Merritt has been Program Director for the NJDEP's Sedge island Natural Resource center for the past eleven years. During that time he has helped hundreds of students and adults better understand the salt marsh and its flora and fauna. Jim volunteers in a variety of environmental programs including: Save Barnegat Bay, Cattus Island, Barnegat Bay Shellfish Restoration Program, Barnegat Bay Student Grant Program and the Barnegat Bay Partnership.
